Liptember has proudly supported Lifeline for over six years, donating over $1.3M worth of funding for vital services such as telephone and online crisis counselling. This support has lead to the training of counsellors, extended service hours and thousands of additional calls and chats answered.

Liptember’s recent support has been focused on Crisis Support Chat Service, answering over 43,000 chats to date and an additional 5,000 in 2017. It is the first ever service of this kind available to anyone in Australia and is a national online service that complements the 13 11 14 telephone service – providing Australians in crisis with an alternate option for help seeking.

The service aims to attract people experiencing personal crisis, and in doing so seeks to interrupt the development of a suicidal crisis state which may result in a person attempting to end their life.

It operates in real time using ‘chat’ technology and is a confidential one- to-one chat with a Lifeline Online Crisis Supporter which runs each and every night from 7pm to 4am AEST/AEDT.

Throughout FY17 alone, the nightly online Crisis Supporters answered 46,161 chat requests at an answer rate of 87%.
